Practice Policies & Patient Information
St. George’s Medical practice is a teaching and training general practice in central West Bridgford, Nottingham. The doctors, nurses and staff aim to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare. We are here to help when you are ill and run numerous clinics for patients with long term conditions (chronic diseases). We also offer a wide variety of other medical services such as antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, contraception, childhood vaccinations and NHS health checks.
Chaperone Policy
The practice is committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is being followed at all times and the safety of everyone is of paramount importance.
This applies to all patients regardless of religion, ethnicity, cultural background, language, or whether they have a learning disability or mental health problem.
All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. This chaperone will normally be a clinical member of staff. On occasions you may prefer an informal chaperone to be present i.e. family friend or relative (provided this is acceptable to the Clinician).
Wherever possible please make this request at the time of booking an appointment so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed.
Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our Chaperone Policy.
Complaint Policy
If you have a complaint about the service you have received from any member of staff working in this practice, please let us know.
In the first instance we would encourage you to discuss your complaint with the staff member concerned. Where the issue cannot be resolved at this stage please contact the practice manager or one of the GP partners, who will try to resolve the issue and offer you further advice on the complaints procedure if required.
If your problem cannot be resolved at this stage and you wish to make a formal complaint, please let us know as soon as possible.

Data Choices
Your Data Matters to the NHS
Information about your health and care helps us to improve your individual care, speed up diagnosis, plan your local services and research new treatments. The NHS is committed to keeping patient information safe and always being clear about how it is used.
How your data is used
Information about your individual care such as treatment and diagnoses is collected about you whenever you use health and care services. It is also used to help us and other organisations for research and planning such as research into new treatments, deciding where to put GP clinics and planning for the number of doctors and nurses in your local hospital. It is only used in this way when there is a clear legal basis to use the information to help improve health and care for you, your family and future generations.
Wherever possible we try to use data that does not identify you, but sometimes it is necessary to use your confidential patient information.
You have a choice
You do not need to do anything if you are happy about how your information is used. If you do not want your confidential patient information to be used for research and planning, you can choose to opt out securely online or through a telephone service. You can change your mind about your choice at any time.
Will choosing this opt-out affect your care and treatment?
No, choosing to opt out will not affect how information is used to support your care and treatment. You will still be invited for screening services, such as screenings for bowel cancer.
What do you need to do?
If you are happy for your confidential patient information to be used for research and planning, you do not need to do anything.

Data Choices – GP Data
GP Data for Planning and Research (GPDPR)
The current NHS Digital (NHSD) extract of GP data for Research purposes (known as the GPDPR) has been delayed due to NHSD wishing to review the way in which this data will be collected, to conduct more public involvement and information about the plans and change the way in which patients can opt out of the extract of their GP data.
Currently the only way to opt out is to complete a Type 1 opt out form and return this to the practice by the 1st September. However, this extract will not be taken until the NHSD have changed the way it will take the data and respect the patient’s choice for using their data. NHSD are introducing the following changes to the opt out process which will mean that patients will be able to change their opt-out status at any time:-
- Patients do not need to register a Type 1 opt-out by 1st September to ensure their GP data will not be uploaded.
- NHS Digital will create the technical means to allow GP data that has previously been uploaded to the system via the GPDPR collection to be deleted when someone registers a Type 1 opt-out.
- The plan to retire Type 1 opt-outs will be deferred for at least 12 months while we get the new arrangements up and running and will not be implemented without consultation with the RCGP, the BMA and the National Data Guardian.
This means that you can opt out at any time in the future and NHSD will delete data that they already have taken for research purposes, the deadline of the 01/09/2020 has been delayed until a new system of opt out is developed. Hopefully, this will be a simple centralised approach via the NHS app or NHS website to avoid paper form and administration work for your GP.
We will update you when we know more about the NHSD plans to change how you can control who has access to your data.
GP Net Earnings
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (i.e. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working in St George’s Medical Practice in the last financial year was £68,033 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 8 full time GPs, 1 part time GP and 0 locum GPs who worked in the practice for longer than six months.

Summary Care Record
Today, records are kept in all the places where you receive care. These places can usually only share information from your records by letter, email or phone. At times, this can slow down treatment and sometimes information can be hard to access.
Summary Care Records have been introduced to improve the safety and quality of patient care. Because the Summary Care Record is an electronic record it will give healthcare staff faster, easier access to essential information about you, to help provide you with safe treatment when you need care in an emergency or when your GP practice is closed.
Summary Care Records contain important information about any medications you are taking, allergies you suffer from and any bad reactions to medicines that you have had. The record will also include your name, address, date of birth and your unique NHS number to help identify you correctly. Giving healthcare staff access to this information can prevent mistakes being made when caring for you in an emergency.
You may want to add other details about your care to your summary care record. This will only happen if you ask for the information to be included.
Your Choices
A summary care record will automatically be created for you. If you do not wish to have one then you will need to fill out an opt-out form and hand it in to the surgery. Opt-out forms are available at reception.
